In 2009 I founded Model Citizen, a nonprofit dedicated to organizing the fashion and film communities to do charitable projects. Enlisting the help of the Dallas fashion folks to come together and lend their talents to benefit Veterans charities and Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, with two very different but successful projects. The true potential of this platform is yet to be realized! It has so much strength. Creating Model Citizen was a ringmaster role that required branding, promotion, fundraising, organization, production, creating websites, publicity, helming big events, a lot of really great memories and everyone having fun doing a lot of good!
Dallas, Texas - Stack the Deck for Vets was Model Citizen's Inaugural Project.
In February 2009 an all volunteer crew assembled to deliver a pinup deck of cards to benefit Veteran's charities.
The premise was simple $20 for a deck of cards purchased one for the buyer and delivered one deck to a soldier on the front with all proceeds going to Veteran's charities.
Shot at the Dallas W Hotel, it was a huge, fun, labor of love. The editing process for so many phenomenal shots took months. Each girl represented a number or face card of the deck for all of the suits. Personal messages of encouragement to the soldiers were added to each of the girl's hearts cards.
10,0000 decks were printed and shipped to the states from China by boat because of their weight... On Veteran's Day, 11/11/2009, a party was thrown to launch the deck. The band, Blues Traveler, donated their time and played a fantastic event.
10,000 decks went to the soldiers to enjoy and $20,000 was donated to Veteran's Charities.
This successful 8 year project mobilized the fashion community in an all volunteer fashion show. Under the guidance of producer Harriet Kelly, who named the project, the endeavor raised well over $250,000 for Scottish Rite Children's Hospital. Campbell Wagner Modeling Agency signed on to donate their models' talents. The show was held at the Park Place Bentley, Rolls Royce, Porsche and Maserati Dealerships and featured a variety of Luxury Brands over the years from Oscar De La Renta fashion to luxury food vendors, jewelry, and accessories, the entire Dallas community rallied to raise money for a well loved and respected Children's Hospital.
